waiting
bids using cheapest rebids.
In
a two over one gameforcing frame, a good bidding accuracy can be
obtained if you use a waiting bid to show that you have no picture
bids available. The majority of
the
waiting bids users are using rebid of opener's suit to be waiting.
So that they have a hard time to show their 6 card opening suit
with extra. Also, they may have a big problem to in this sequence:
1S 2C 2D 3D, 2D has a very wide range and 3D is also unlimited. So
they can hardly develop here. It's also true for 1S 2C 2H 3H, both
hands are unlimited. You may play serious 3NT here, but it doesn't
guarantee you may
find
the best spot, because the other part is still unlimited and often
he can't take the control.
A
better treatment is proposed here using the cheapest rebids to
show all minimum hands, and using the suit above the waiting bids
to 2NT to show some specific information. Waiting bids show either
minimum hand or good 17-19, balanced hands.
Example:
1S
2C
Here,
you use 2D as waiting, 2H to show real diamonds, extra value, 2S
to show real hearts, extra value, 2NT to show 6 spades, extra
value.
1S
2H:
You
rebid 2S to as waiting, 2N to show 5 spades extra value.
1H
2C:
2D
as waiting,
2H:
diamonds, extra value.
2S:
6 hearts, extra value,
2N:
4 spades, extra value.
So
the suit above the waiting bids actually shows the natural meaning
of the suit below your bid with extra value.
Development
after your waiting.
Responder
can make another waiting bid if the rebid is below 2NT(not
including 2NT, which shows the willing to play NT in the right
position)
If
you have a waiting bid available, all other non-waiting bids show
extra.
After
both have used waiting bids, all bids are natural, and the bidding
can stop at 4 level minor suit.
Non
waiting bids.
Basically,
we shouldn't wait with extra value, extra value means we have
either 15 or more high card points or <= 6 losers for
distributional hands. When the hand is marginal, we tend to bid
conservatively and wait, because that would give partner more
space to describe his hand and you still can catch up later.
cheapest
jump by responder:
it's
designed to show solid suit and slam interest, at least AKQJxx and
side suit A or KQJTxx with two side suit aces. If it's a minor
suit, four level of that suit should be RKC and 4 level other bids
are cuebids.
Jump
to 3NT by responder:
it
shows solid suit and slow value in unbid suits, it denies an ace
in unbid suits. (exception is 1S 2H 2S 3N, which shows solid
hearts and slam potential. 4C/D would be splinter in spades)
Jump
rebid of 3NT by opener:
shows
exact 4 card raise, stopper in side suits, and about 15-17 HCP.
(exception:
1S 2H 3N: self splinter, about 15-17, solid spades. use 4C as
relay, step response to show the position of the shortness.)
